The Caro Cup was first competed for in 1949. It was an annual competition between Auckland and Waikato. It was last competed for in 2006.
In 2016 Swimming Auckland and Swimming Waikato reinstated this annual competition in the form of a 12/U Relay Meet. In 2017 13/U teams were added.
The weekends relay competition saw the regions’ top 112 13/U swimmers compete for their region in a number of relay events. Swimmers competed in the same team for all events.
Each region selected the following teams –
10/U 2 x Girls and 2 x Boys Teams 16 Swimmers
11/U 4 x Girls and 4 x Boys Teams 32 Swimmers
12/U 4 x Girls and 4 x Boys Teams 32 Swimmers
13/U 4 x Girls and 4 x Boys Teams 32 Swimmers
Each team competed in their age group and swam in the following relay events (short course) –
4 x 50m Free
4 x 50m Back
4 x 50m Breast
4 x 50m Fly
4 x 50m IM
In an exciting and fast paced event Swimming Auckland overcame some stiff competition from Swimming Waikato to take overall honours for 2017.
The 2018 Caro Cup will see 14/U teams added and will be hosted by Swimming Waikato.
